Damn some of y’all got me heated this morning. Never in a million years did I think anyone would take my posts about my time in Russia and Eastern Europe to be pro-Putin. As much as I do not wanna talk politics here, I have no problem stating what is obvious to almost any Westerner with a brain - Putin is the clear bad guy here. There’s no question or opinions, it’s just a fact. Most Russians are not even falling for his propaganda and are against the war. I have close friends in both Ukraine and Russia, and they are all broken-hearted. The people do not want war and the people always suffer the most. I am worried about my friends and the stability of the world order. This is a place where I share things about myself and I decided to share this. I’m sorry if you were so primed and ready to argue that you misinterpreted my posts. I tried so hard to avoid being political that I guess I didn’t say enough? If you follow me on social media, you’ll see that I am donating 25% of my income this month to a humanitarian charity that is feeding Ukrainian refugees, and I am encouraging others to donate to them as well. They feed people and feeding people should never be political. I’ve volunteered with this charity in California in the past and they’re simply the best way to immediately and directly help the people. We’re not exactly supposed to be raising money for something else or promoting things like that so I had not mentioned it here, but I guess it needs to be said. Sooooo if you wanna argue about politics, this is not the place. This space should be a fun respite from the real world. If I want to argue about something, I can hop on Twitter. I want to have fun here and hopefully you do too ♥️

Since I got a lot of messages asking for more pics like this, I’ll post a few that I think are acceptable to OF (no one in background etc). The first is me hauling this giant bottle of vodka I got to take home (June 2002 I think) and the second is me in front of Lenin’s tomb (summer of 2001). I’ll see what else I can dig up. Fee free to ask questions 😂😘 Ok some of you are clearly misunderstanding my posts. If you actually read my post the day before about my background and how I’m worried about my friends, I thought it would be clear enough without much explanation. If you follow me on social media you know I’m donating and raising money for humanitarian charities helping Ukrainian refugees. It never occurred to me that anyone could possibly thing my posts were pro-Putin. Tho I never talk about politics here, it’s just an insane stance to be pro-Putin and I have no problem saying that. My purpose in the posts was to share part of my life with y’all, which is what I do here. Many of you are interested in more than just me precisely right now so I shared my experiences in the region. I try to never talk politics here but here we are. Don’t come at me with your anti-Putin sentiment because I AM ALREADY WITH YOU.

Maybe y’all will find this little story amusing idk… I lived in Russia for a year between college and grad school. My college degrees are in international affairs and psychology, and I minored in Russian language. Before I figured out I wanted to be a chef, I thought I wanted to work in academia, mostly to be a professor, so I was going directly into a PhD program after my year abroad. I went to Russia to continue studying language, and I taught English and partied a lot. It was a glorious time and I loved it. After talking with a close friend who lives in Russia today, who I met on this trip 20 years ago, I was looking through my old pics. I’m feeling sentimental and worried about my friends, as well as the international order. Y’all know I don’t do politics here, but I think what’s going on is on everyone’s mind a little bit (and that’s all I’ll say on the subject cause this isn’t the place for politics 😉) This pic was actually taken in Helsinki by a friend I was traveling with, when we had to leave Russia to go renew our visas in Finland. It was an easy train ride away so this was pretty common then. I thought y'all might find me flashing people in public at 21 amusing 😂 This was also before I knew about cool shoes 😉
